Hakone Open-Air Museum
Clay Hakes
5th Year M.Arch
8000 feet beneath the peak of Mt. Fuji sits the town of Hakone, home of one of Japan’s largest open-air museums. The museum’s paths meander between terraced sculpture gardens and views of the surrounding volcanic landscape.
To my eye, each installation seems uniquely alive in the landscape. Wandering through, the visitor briefly becomes a character in the story of the sculptures.
